Bing’s daily active users top 100 million

The Bing search service surpassed 100 million daily active users a month after integrating the ChatGPT chatbot, according to Microsoft vice-president Yusuf Mehdi.

After 30 days, a few stats on new Bing engagement:
— 45M total chats
— 1/3 of daily preview users Chat daily
— 1/3 of preview users are brand new to Bing

According to the executive, the company fully recognises that Bing is a small player with a modest share. Yet after the chatbot’s deployment, the search engine attracted users who had never previously tried it.

Mehdi noted that a third of active users are unfamiliar with the service.

We view the growing popularity of the new Bing as evidence of our belief in the need to rethink search and the value of combining search, answers, chat, and creation in a single interface,” said the vice president.

According to the statement, about a third of users launch the chat mode daily. On average, three messages are sent per session.

Since launch, 45 million sessions have been opened. 15% of all chats were used to create new content.

The mobile launch also helped Bing reach a new level of popularity and led to a sixfold increase in users.

Additionally, Microsoft recorded growth in traditional search activity. The company attributes this to Edge and the deployment of the Prometheus AI model, which improves ranking in results.

Earlier, Microsoft again raised the limits for Bing chat mode. Users can now send up to ten messages per session, with total daily queries up to 120.

Bing Chat moving today to 10 chats per session / 120 total per day.

In February, Microsoft introduced the ‘new Bing’ based on ChatGPT. On the same day the service became available to a limited number of testers on the waitlist.

A week later, users complained about strange behavior of Bing chat. The company said the base model ‘gets tangled’ after reaching 15 messages in a single session.

Subsequently, developers introduced limits on the number of queries.

On February 22, Microsoft introduced AI-powered search into the Bing, Edge and Skype apps.
