The mining company BIT Mining Limited said a cyberattack affected its BTC.com pool. The incident occurred on December 3, говорится in a press release.
“As a result of the cyberattack, certain cryptocurrencies were stolen, including BTC.com client assets worth about $700,000 and about $2.3 million belonging to the company,” BIT Mining Limited clarified.
Company representatives emphasized that they reported the incident to Shenzhen police (China). On December 23, authorities began the investigation.
“After identifying this cyberattack, the company implemented measures to improve protection against hackers. BTC.com is currently operating normally,” said the pool owner.
As Immunefi notes, in the third quarter the crypto industry’s cumulative losses from hacks and scams amounted to $428.7 million, according to Immunefi. Of 39 incidents, 30 were hacker attacks with total damages of $399 million.
