Bitcoin and Conspiracy Theories, Telegram’s Web3 Innovations, and Hamster Kombat’s Announcement

“Should Have Bought” is a news podcast by the ForkLog editorial team, covering the week’s major industry events and the hottest tokens.

Topics include Telegram’s innovations, Pavel Durov’s billionaire status, the decline of Bitcoin and Ethereum, and news from Hamster Kombat.

Special guest: Fedor Skuratov — president of the association of Russian-speaking community managers, founder of the @combot bot, and author of the Telegram channel “Telegram Marketing.”

Participants: ForkLog authors Lena Jess, Alex K., and Vasily Smirnov.

New Features in Telegram

On July 31, Telegram developers introduced several innovations, including a Web3 browser based on TON and a mini-app store.

Users can now minimize browser pages, allowing for convenient switching between chats, websites, and apps in quick view mode. A bookmarking feature has been added to save favorite materials.

Mini-apps using Telegram Stars for payments can be featured in the popular section. The internal currency can be gifted to contacts via the “Settings” section.

The “Apps” tab in the “Search” section simplifies access to games and services.

Other updates include a flash for video message recording, a weather widget, and covers in stories.

Pavel Durov Becomes a Billionaire

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has entered the Bloomberg Billionaires Index for the first time, ranking 279th with a fortune of $9.15 billion.

Elon Musk tops the list with $252 billion, while U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump is near the bottom, at 499th place, with $5.89 billion.

From the cryptocurrency world, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao ($38.8 billion, 39th place) and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong ($9.78 billion, 257th place) are included in the ranking.

Notably, Coinbase and Paradigm co-founder Fred Ehrsam, Digital Currency Group founder Barry Silbert, and Gemini founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, who were in the December 2023 ranking, are not mentioned in the current list.

Bitcoin: A CIA Creation?

American journalist Tucker Carlson claimed that Bitcoin was created by the CIA, but emphasized its importance for financial sovereignty. He believes the cryptocurrency offers people the freedom to conduct their affairs without government oversight. However, for its full potential to be realized, digital gold must become a medium of exchange, not just a store of value.

These statements sparked a lively reaction online. “The Bitcoin Standard” author Saifedean Ammous highlighted the transparency of the cryptocurrency’s code, while developer omerskywalker compared Bitcoin to GPS, created by the U.S. Department of Defense, emphasizing its effectiveness.

60% for Hamster Kombat “Tappers”

According to the Hamster Kombat project’s white paper, 60% of the issued tokens are intended for players.

The remaining coins will be used for liquidity, partnerships, and other purposes. The team claims this will be the largest airdrop in history.

According to the document, the app has already reached profitability and does not need to sell tokens “to pay bills.” Developers plan to create a Hamster ecosystem that extends beyond the current game.
