Bitcoin Cash rises 5% on fake Kroger collaboration news

On November 5, an item on Kroger’s investor website announced adding Bitcoin Cash as a payment option. The press release turned out to be fake.

The company refuted the information, calling the message ‘fraudulent’ and ‘baseless’ and urged readers to disregard it.

The press release stated that the chain would begin accepting Bitcoin Cash from December 1, 2021.

The CNBC correspondent Dominic Chu also published a screenshot of the message on Kroger’s investor site.

Following the news, Bitcoin Cash rose 5%, to $632. As of writing, the token was trading around $598.

Earlier the largest American cinema chain AMC announced the addition of Bitcoin Cash and other cryptocurrencies as a payment option for tickets by the end of 2021.

Earlier in September, Litecoin surged by more than 35% on a fake report of a Walmart–Litecoin Foundation collaboration, and then likewise collapsed after denials by the companies.
