Bitcoin community warns Gary Vaynerchuk against attending Bitcoin SV supporters conference

Renowned entrepreneur and author Gary Vaynerchuk has been named as a speaker at the forthcoming CoinGeek Live conference. In the Bitcoin community, the news was met with scepticism, pointing to the organisers’ questionable reputation.

The conference will take place in New York from September 30 to October 2. It is being organised by the self-proclaimed creator of Bitcoin, Craig Wright, and his business partner Calvin Ayre. The main theme of the event will be the Bitcoin SV (BSV) ecosystem.

On Monday, September 21, Ayre-owned publication CoinGeek presented another conference speaker — the serial entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk.

He rose to prominence as the host of the video blog “Wine Library TV” and as the author of New York Times bestsellers. In 2017, Vaynerchuk возглавил the global ranking of the most authoritative thought leaders in social media.

The entrepreneur serves as a consultant to Uber, Birchbox, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr, and is a frequent participant at international entrepreneurship and technology conferences.

At CoinGeek Live, Vaynerchuk is slated to participate in a panel discussion on creating social media platforms connected online. The investor said that he is “fascinated by blockchain technology and pleased to join CoinGeek Live”.

But the Bitcoin community did not share Vaynerchuk’s enthusiasm. The host of the popular podcast “What Bitcoin Did,” Peter McCormack, drew attention to the organizers’ dubious past.

Another commentator also urged Vaynerchuk to “study these guys,” noting that Wright and Ayre are the complete opposite of the values he professes.

In response, Gary Vaynerchuk wrote that his team is already looking into this matter.

As a reminder, Peter McCormack’s ongoing defamation battle with Craig Wright continues, Wright having filed the suit against him in 2019. The case rests on the British Bitcoin maximalist’s description of Wright as a “liar and a fraud” because of his claims to be the creator of Bitcoin.

Wright has filed similar lawsuits against other industry figures: Blockstream CEO Adam Back, Norwegian Bitcoin enthusiast Hodlonaut and Bitcoin.com founder Roger Ver. All of these suits were later withdrawn; however in August Wright again decided to sue Ver.

Among Wright’s numerous critics was Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. At the Deconomy conference in Seoul in April 2018, he also called the self-proclaimed Satoshi a fraud.
