Bitcoin Domain Portfolio from 2010 Goes Up for Auction
The addresses include geotargeting, institutional, and technical terms in their names.
The Australian auction house Lloyds has put up for auction a collection of 280 domain names, many of which were created in 2010, according to a press release.
The addresses include geotargeting, institutional, and technical terms in their names. For example, JapanBitcoin.com, AustraliaBitcoin.com, BitcoinExchanges.com, and BitcoinWallets.com.
Other notable names in the collection include:
- BitcoinforPizza.com;
- EmailBitcoin.com;
- BitcoinSpotETF.com;
- BitcoinSeedPhrase.com;
- TokenizedBitcoins.com;
- BitcoinNetzwerk.com.
The ownership of the domains is unknown. Lloyds speculated that they might have been registered by early Bitcoin developers.
“This is not just a collection of good domain names. It is the architecture of Bitcoin’s internet presence. Whoever wins this auction will gain not just domains, but the right to own the language of the digital economy of the first cryptocurrency,” said Lloyds’ Chief Operating Officer, Lee Hames.
To participate in the auction, a preliminary check is required. Payment in cryptocurrency is accepted — the auction house began accepting it back in 2021.
Domains related to digital assets often attract significant sums. In April, Lloyds sold the domain XBT.com for $3 million. In 2014, BTC.com was auctioned for $1 million, and ETH.com for $2 million in 2017. Crypto.com was purchased for $10-12 million in 2018.
In 2021, the beer brand Budweiser acquired the decentralized domain Beer.eth for 30 ETH.
