The National Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) of Ukraine and the largest cryptocurrency exchanges have begun exchanging information about owners of Bitcoin wallets in criminal proceedings. This was reported by ForkLog UA.
To date, ARMA has established cooperation with Binance, Coinbase, KuCoin, Kraken and WhiteBIT. It will now be able to obtain from them the following wallet-owner identification data:
- identification documents;
- email address;
- IP address;
- the device model and IMEI used to access the account;
- transaction information;
- the existence of additional crypto addresses and bank accounts through which wallet funding is carried out;
- account numbers to which funds are withdrawn, among other data.
As the agency stressed, checks for the existence of crypto wallets are conducted only for defendants in criminal proceedings to facilitate tracing and seizure of assets.
In 2020, ARMA developed guidelines for identifying, tracing, and seizing cryptocurrency assets in criminal proceedings.
They cover methods for identifying software associated with the use of digital currencies in criminal activity and the legal aspects of seizing such wallets.
As Chainalysis reported in September, Ukraine surpassed Russia in the Global Crypto Adoption Index for 2022.
Experts also noted a pronounced rise in cryptocurrency transfers to Ukraine in the immediate aftermath of the start of the full-scale war.
