Bitcoin investor sells Kyiv apartment as NFT for 36 ETH

Propy completes first NFT-based real estate auction; Kyiv apartment sells for 36 ETH.

The real estate broker Propy completed the first NFT-based real estate auction. The Kyiv apartment sold for 36 ETH (over $93 000 at the time of the deal).

The new owner of the property is a San Francisco-based engineer Devon Bernard. His plans include renting the property on a short-term basis, issuing NFTs to tenants.

Along with the ownership title, the buyer received the non-fungible token representing a painting by Kyiv graffiti artist Chizz, the physical version of which is painted on the apartment wall.

Bernard plans to split the painting into several NFTs, whose owners will be able to leave messages or images on their portion. They will be viewable on a dedicated website or in person via augmented reality.

Previously, the apartment belonged to TechCrunch founder and cryptocurrency investor Michael Arrington. He purchased it in 2017 for Ethereum via the Propy platform with the ownership recorded on the blockchain.

Earlier, the starting price of the lot was $20 000.
