Bitcoin Pizza Day: CZ Changpeng Zhao Personally Cooks Pizza at Mister Pizza as PizzaDAO Hosts 100 Parties

Every year on May 22 the cryptocurrency community marks Bitcoin Pizza Day. The occasion stems from a landmark event for the industry, when in 2010 programmer Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC.

As of writing they are worth more than $294 million. Today for that money you could buy two Picasso “Young Girl with a Flower Basket” paintings ($115 million) or six original copies of the United States Constitution ($43.2 million).

PizzaDAO decided to host 100 parties in 75 countries, including the United States, Argentina, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Japan. The decentralised autonomous organisation also released an NFT collection, Rare Pizza, dedicated to the milestone day.

On the eve of Bitcoin Pizza Day, the cryptocurrency exchange Binance hosted a themed event in Cannes. The company’s CEO Changpeng Zhao attended — he personally cooked pizza for visitors at Mister Pizza.

Binance also launched a competition, in which it will award five users a ‘year’s supply of free pizza’ ($2,000 in BNB). The winners will be announced on May 29.

KuCoin is running a contest for $500 in USDT. Users were invited to tell the story of their first real-world purchase using cryptocurrency.

Huobi platform announced that it would distribute 1 BTC among 100 winners who buy a pizza with Dogecoin (DOGE).

In May 2020, Laszlo Hanyecz said he had actually spent far more than 10,000 BTC on pizzas.
