Bithumb to launch NFT marketplace
South Korean bitcoin exchange Bithumb, with backing from a “major company”, will launch an NFT marketplace in the first half of 2022. Signal reports.
In an interview with the publication, the platform’s CEO Ho Beak-yeong said that this move would help maintain its position in the race with Korbit and Upbit. Competitors launched NFT marketplaces in June and November 2021 respectively.
In a conversation with Newsway, Bithumb representatives did not confirm or deny rumors that the initiative would be implemented in collaboration with LG CNC, a subsidiary of LG Corporation. According to sources, the firm may not be the only one with whom the platform is engaged in substantive dialogue.
Information on who is prepared to collaborate with Bithumb in creating NFT content is not provided.
The exchange posted NFT-focused roles in November.
Earlier, Animoca Brands, a blockchain-game provider, and Cube Entertainment’s production hub agreed to create a metaverse focused on the K-pop music genre.
