BitMEX operator to award $100,000 grant to Bitcoin Core developer

The 100x Group, operator of the BitMEX crypto-derivatives exchange, announced a grant of $100,000 to Bitcoin Core developer Michael Ford.

The 100x Group, operator of the BitMEX crypto-derivatives exchange, announced a grant of $100,000 to Bitcoin Core developer Michael Ford.

Together with earlier payouts, funding for the blockchain specialist known as Fanquake from the exchange’s parent companies has reached $250,000. Until July 2020, the BitMEX operator was HDR Global Trading.

“People’s trust in Bitcoin is supported by its security and stability. In ensuring this, Bitcoin Core developers play a key role,” said Adrian Przelozny, CEO of Independent Reserve.

Alexander Khoptner, CEO of 100x Group, noted that specialists such as Ford build the infrastructure on which the company’s business depends. The grant is provided without conditions, and Fanquake may work on open-source projects at his discretion, he added.

Last year, HDR Global Trading awarded a grant of $100,000 to Chaincode Labs and Bitcoin Core developer Gleb Naumenko, and the OKCoin exchange also provided financial support in the form of a six-figure sum to Marco Falco, who is also working on Bitcoin client development.

Earlier this year, Marathon, a mining company, joined funding for Bitcoin Core developers, allocating $96 000 to Jonas Schnelli.
