BitRiver weighs filing suit against U.S. Treasury over sanctions

The operator of BitRiver’s mining data-centres is considering preparing and filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury over sanctions imposed on the company.

Representatives say that these accusations are ‘unfounded’ and harm its reputation:

“BitRiver is not a state structure, but a 100% private company that in no way helps Russia circumvent sanctions. BitRiver also intends to file a complaint against the U.S. Treasury for unfair competition and lobbying the US mining industry, which violates the WTO rules.”

The company emphasised that BitRiver’s operational activities have always complied with global standards of corporate governance and the laws in all jurisdictions where it operates.

In April, the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on the BitRiver group of companies to curb potential evasion of sanctions by Russia through cryptocurrency mining.

In ForkLog’s comment, BitRiver founder and CEO Igor Runets said that U.S. actions should be viewed as interference in the mining industry, “unfair competition and an attempt to shift the global balance of power in favour of American companies.”
