Bitstamp secures digital-asset services provider licence in Spain
The cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp has secured a digital-asset services provider licence in Spain, as reported by The Block.
The company may operate across Spain in full compliance with the rules of AML and CTF. The regulator will also monitor compliance with standards of commercial and professional reputation.
In addition, Bitstamp has committed to comply with new requirements for advertising related to digital assets.
The application review began in January.
According to Bitstamp CEO Jean-Baptiste Graftio, the license in Spain marked the 50th for the Luxembourg-based Bitcoin exchange.
Earlier, in July, Binance received a similar licence from the Bank of Spain.
In October, members of the European Council signed the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation. The document includes rules that apply to issuers of unbacked crypto assets, stablecoins, trading and custodial platforms.
The text of the bill is to be formally approved by the European Parliament. It is expected to be published in the EU Official Journal in early 2023, before it takes effect in 2024.
