Bitwise CIO Predicts a Twentyfold Growth in the Crypto Market

Bitwise CIO foresees a 10-20x crypto market growth in a decade.

The digital asset market is set to expand by 10 to 20 times over the next decade, stated Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan. He supported his confidence with a forecast from SEC Chairman Paul Atkins regarding the deep integration of traditional finance and blockchain.

Atkins mentioned in an interview with Fox Business that he anticipates all U.S. stock markets transitioning on-chain “within a couple of years.” This involves capital amounting to $68 trillion. Currently, the volume of tokenized stocks is about $670 million, indicating a scaling potential of up to 100,000 times.

Hougan also highlighted the difficulty in predicting the leader among competing blockchains, such as between Ethereum and Solana. The outcome is influenced by regulation, macroeconomics, and numerous random factors.

“People who claim absolute certainty in the victory of a particular network are deluding themselves,” emphasized the executive.

The primary bet for the Bitwise CIO is on the overall growth of the industry. Key drivers will include stablecoins, tokenization, Bitcoin, DeFi, and prediction markets.

The expert shared that to mitigate the risk of choosing the wrong asset, he invests in capitalization-weighted index crypto funds. This strategy allows one to profit from the sector’s growth without attempting to predict a specific winner, noted Hougan.

According to the expert, by 2026, the popularity of index funds will surge due to the increasing complexity of the market structure and the growing number of use cases.

Back in December, Bitwise executives stated that the greatest threat to Bitcoin in the current cycle comes from a potential AI bubble and U.S. digital asset regulation.
