BlackRock, the multinational investment company, via its iShares ETF provider, has filed an filing with the SEC to launch ETF based on the NYSE FactSet Global Blockchain Technologies Index.
According to the document, the Blockchain and Tech ETF will include companies involved in mining, its infrastructure and trading of digital assets. It will also include shares of companies in the blockchain space and chip manufacturers.
The fund structure will not hold cryptocurrencies or their derivatives directly.
“The NYSE FactSet Global Blockchain Technologies Index is a market-capitalization-weighted index of stocks adjusted for their free float. It tracks the performance of U.S. and foreign companies involved in the development, innovation and use of blockchain and crypto technologies,” the statement said.
In November, BlackRock ruled out launching its own crypto-ETF in the near term.
Earlier, CEO Larry Fink said there was little client interest in digital assets.
