The popularity NFT continues to grow: in August the trading volume of non-fungible tokens on the OpenSea marketplace reached $3 billion.
Marketplaces attract artists to create new collections, which sometimes include up to 10,000 tokens. But if too few people work on them, the collections become monotonous. The NFT STARS marketplace released one of the most diverse collections, developed by more than 200 digital artists.
We report on the NFT Heroes universe, the launch of a game inspired by the collection, and staking of the project’s non-fungible tokens.
A quick note on the collection’s creators
NFT STARS — a marketplace for trading non-fungible tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. Artists undergo mandatory moderation: this measure helps combat speculators who profit from the NFT hype.
In June the marketplace raised $4.2 million in an IDO (Initial DEX Offering), and in September released NFT Heroes — a collection of 6,000 unique sci-fi-themed tokens with nods to cryptocurrencies.
In the near future NFT STARS will launch two projects: a radio station with the NFT music marketplace NFT Radio Station and a virtual gallery using augmented reality AR-Gallery.
The NFT Heroes Universe
The collection depicts a blockchain world in which an intergalactic war occurred. Heroes from different blockchain planets fled the conflict and settled in an abandoned city. There they built a society named Sidus.
Soon the characters began competing for resources, and Sidus became a battleground. Some heroes modified themselves for war, developed combat skills, or found better gear.
Characters of the collection
The NFT Heroes character design was created by members of the NFT 256 collective, led by VFX artist Maxim Vavaev. A team of 200 people drew thousands of elements, from which a generator assembles the character images. They include:
- Appearance: face and skin tone;
- Equipment: armor, backpack and helmet;
- Accessories: mask, glasses, watch, shoulder straps, item in hand;
- Origin: background and the hero’s planet;
- Artist signature on legendary heroes.
The collection comprises 4,000 common, 1,000 rare, 500 legendary, and 500 partner tokens. The designers incorporated references to pop culture and hundreds of the most popular cryptocurrencies and crypto projects.
On the heroes’ armor you can find logos of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Solana, Avalanche, Polygon, Huobi Eco Chain, Polkadot, Cardano, Tron, Ripple and Cosmos. In the gear, there are sometimes items from popular films and games.
Buying and staking NFT
Users can obtain the token in two ways:
- buy on the NFT Heroes site for 0.055 ETH ($187 at the time of publication);
- buy from other collectors on the marketplace OpenSea. At the time of publication the trading volume of the tokens stood at 63 ETH.
Contest winners and presale participants can claim tokens on the NFT Heroes site.
Tokens can be upgraded with cards: a card costing 0.1 ETH ($340) will make a token rare, and three cards at 0.2 ETH ($680) each will make it legendary. Rare and legendary heroes change pose. Legendary NFTs also alter the background and gain unique armor.
Token holders can stake them in Galaxy Staking to earn the marketplace’s native tokens NFT STARS (NFTS). Rare and legendary token holders receive boosted rewards.
OpenSea charges royalties on every NFT Heroes sale in favour of NFT STARS. The project distributes 50% of these payments to users who own NFTS or MILK2 tokens totaling at least $200.
Project development
NFT STARS plans to launch Battle Arena, a game based on the NFT Heroes collection. Owners of heroes will compete in one-on-one battles.
Owners of NFT Heroes tokens will have a voice in the Metaverse DAO—a community that governs the game.
Conclusion
NFT Heroes is currently one of the most expansive collaborations in the NFT market, involving more than 200 artists.
The hero designs tie to cryptocurrencies and pop culture: every buyer will find something to suit them. In the appearance and gear of the characters there are nods to the Marvel universe, popular gaming franchises, and science fiction.
Drawbacks of NFT Heroes include engaging a large number of artists of varying quality and the use of the Ethereum blockchain. Some tokens vary significantly in execution quality, and the Battle Arena launch on Ethereum could incur high gas fees for players.
