BNB Chain team launches public opBNB mainnet

BNB Chain team launches public opBNB mainnet

On September 13, the developers of BNB Chain announced the public launch of the opBNB mainnet, the second-layer solution opBNB.

Infrastructure providers gained access to the mainnet in August.

The L2 network is built on the OP Stack from Optimism. The protocol uses the Optimistic Rollups scaling technology.

According to statements, the EVM-compatible solution is designed to democratise access to the blockchain, significantly reducing gas fees.

For projects built on opBNB, the BNB Chain team announced the following support measures:

The opBNB testnet was launched in June. During this period the network processed 35 million transactions. 435 972 unique wallets interacted with the protocol, and over 150 dapps have been deployed on it.

In the mainnet, the project aims to reach throughput of up to 4000 TPS at peak and maintain a steady 2600 TPS. Transaction costs should be below $0.005.

After the mainnet launch, the team plans to bolster the resilience and decentralisation of the L2 solution through:

To mark the public launch, BNB Chain will release a Genesis NFT collection, ForkLog representatives said. The tokens will grant holders VIP advantages, including priority access to various events such as partner airdrops and whitelist spots.

Together with 15 partners, the platform will run the ‘opBNB Airdrop Marathon’. Over two months, one to three promotional events offering free token distributions will be held weekly.

Earlier on September 13, Manta Network announced the launch of the alpha version of the mainnet for the OP Stack-built second-layer solution Pacific, also built with OP Stack.
