
BNB Chain to hard fork after $100 million hack
The BNB Chain team is implementing an update to the network as an emergency fix following the BSC Token Hub cross-chain bridge hack worth $100 million.
Hard fork Moran will occur on the mainnet at block #22,107,423, and on the testnet at #23,603,940.
The update is designed to restore the internal cross-chain infrastructure between the BNB Beacon Chain governance chain and the BNB Smart Chain’s consensus layer. The update includes:
- fix the iavl hash-check vulnerability;
- introduce a block header into the CrossChain contract sequence verification;
- implement a whitelist of candidates for network relays.
The cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced a temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals in BEP20 tokens. Trading on the platform will not be affected by the update.

An unknown attacker on October 6 hacked the BSC Token Hub and stole digital assets worth $544 million, but managed to withdraw only $100 million. The BNB Chain team paused the network and resumed it after a few hours.
