BNB Chain Update Reduces Block Interval to 0.75 Seconds

The BNB Chain team has successfully completed the Maxwell hardfork. As a result of the upgrade, the average block creation time has been halved to 0.75 seconds.

In April, the interval was reduced from three to one and a half seconds with the activation of the Lorentz update. Developers deemed the solution successful and immediately set a course for further reducing block time.

The acceleration of the network in Maxwell was achieved through the implementation of BEP-524. The change aims to:

  • improve the responsiveness of blockchain applications;
  • ensure smoother interaction with dapps in the DeFi and GameFi segments.

Two other components of the upgrade were BEP-563 and BEP-564. The first solution is aimed at increasing the efficiency of the validator network by:

  • increasing block communication speed;
  • reducing the risk of missed votes and synchronization delays.

BEP-564 introduced two new message types to support operations with multiple blocks in a single call.

Back in April, BNB Chain developers implemented the Pascal hardfork, aimed at enhancing the blockchain’s EVM compatibility.
