British schoolboy earns about $350,000 from NFT pixel whales

A 12-year-old Londoner, Benjamin Ahmed, created 3,350 NFTs in the CryptoPunks style and sold them in nine hours. reports CNBC.

The schoolboy has been interested in programming since the age of five. He has already learned HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other programming languages.

In early 2021, the teenager’s attention was drawn to non-fungible tokens.

“I was fascinated by the idea of transferring ownership via the blockchain,” Ahmed said.

With online tutorials and mentors from Discord communities, the schoolboy learned to code NFTs.

His first standalone collection of 40 pixel avatars was inspired by the game Minecraft. However, it did not find much traction with buyers.

The second series, titled Weird Whales consisted of 3,350 unique pixel whales inspired by the popular CryptoPunks NFTs. The minting of the tokens cost Ahmed $300.

After launch in July, the entire collection was sold out in nine hours. The teenager earned more than 80 ETH (over $255,000 at current prices). Further token resales earned him an additional 30 ETH (over $95,000) in royalties. Total earnings have already surpassed $350,000 and continue to rise.

Ahmed keeps all of his profits in cryptocurrency.

“I plan to hold Ether and not convert it into fiat money. In the future, bank accounts will probably become unnecessary,” he says.

The schoolboy is now working on his next NFT project, which will reference meme culture.

Earlier, NFTs from the Art Blocks sold for $3.3 million.
