Buterin Revises Approach to Mentioning L2 Solutions
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced a change in his approach to mentioning L2 solutions. Starting next year, he will publicly discuss only projects that have reached the “stage 1+” level.
I take this seriously. Starting next year, I plan to only publicly mention (in blogs, talks, etc) L2s that are stage 1+, with *maybe a short grace period* for new genuinely interesting projects.
It doesn’t matter if I invested, or if you’re my friend; stage 1 or bust.

This stage implies achieving 75% consensus in the council for significant changes, with 26% or more of the council members not being part of the team.
The Ethereum co-founder allowed for a “short grace period” for new and genuinely interesting projects.
“It doesn’t matter if I invested, or if you’re my friend; stage 1 or bust,” he emphasized.
Several teams developing ZK-rollups have told Buterin they are on track to reach stage 1 by the end of the year. He is “looking forward to it.”
The developer also stressed the importance of transitioning from “glorified multisigs” to a structure based on cryptographic trust. The former refers to a simpler and less secure system for L2 rollups.
In September, Buterin stated he does not intend to invest in L2 or other projects.
