Cardano Network Activates Vasil Hard Fork

Cardano Network Activates Vasil Hard Fork

On September 23 at 01:44 (Kyiv/Moscow time), the Input Output Global (IOG) team successfully activated the Vasil upgrade on the Cardano mainnet. Some changes will take effect with the start of the new epoch — September 27.

“Vasil will significantly increase Cardano’s performance and potential — from higher throughput via diffusion pipelining [optimisation of block propagation time] to an improved developer experience with more productive and efficient scripts, and reducing costs,” said IOG.

According to Cardanoscan, as of writing the project’s network is operating normally and producing blocks. Ecosystem participants said that after activation the blockchain underwent stress testing.

With Vasil, developers introduced into the blockchain a second version of the Plutus scripts and modified the cost model for each primitive, lowering its individual parameters. IOG believes this step will reduce the cost of executing operations by 20-30%.

«Vasil расширит возможности смарт-контрактов Cardano благодаря скриптам Plutus V2 и модели затрат, которая повышает эффективность и без того мощной платформы. В конечном итоге это позволит снизить стоимость выполнения скриптов и размер транзакций, а также повысить пропускную способность», — написал глава Cardano Foundation Фредерик Грегаард.

Cardano ranked 26th among 600 global brands in MBLM’s consumer emotional-attachment ranking. Bitcoin ranked 30th.
