The Cardano Foundation and Emurgo have launched a project to coordinate efforts in developing a toolkit to support the Cardano ecosystem and accelerate the creation of dapps.

The initiative envisages two phases. In the first phase, MVP1, the blockchain company Five Binaries will create a modular toolkit consisting of:
- the Blockfrost Blockchain connector, which will provide access to data in the Cardano network. To solve this, Five Binaries’ Blockfrost API will be used. In the future, other access methods may be added;
- a Chain Watcher observer, as a key component analogous to the chain indexer of the Plutus Application Backend. It tracks certain events in the network and relies on the server-side components of applications;
- a backend—the server-side of dapps—that interacts with the Chain Watcher and contains a certain amount of application logic.
The initiative is expected to include a simple backend that will serve as a proof of concept and provide developers with a reference point for building their own.
In MVP2 phase, the Cardano Foundation will invite projects and partners from the ecosystem to contribute. At this stage, each request to connect a connector or backend will be checked for compliance with the project’s software development guidelines, including tests.
Developing these guidelines forms part of MVP1.
Partners believe the toolset will enable developers to easily interact, test and deploy applications on the blockchain without the need for deep technical knowledge or experience working with the Haskell language.
“Developing this tool stack in partnership with Emurgo will help create a dynamic inclusive ecosystem for the development of third-party smart contracts on Cardano. This is the first in a series of open-source architecture stacks we are considering,” said Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation.
Back in September 2021, IOHK activated the Plutus smart-contract feature on the mainnet.
In January, the company outlined its plans for developing the blockchain platform in 2022.
