CBOE to expand cryptocurrency offerings for traders

The Chicago-based options exchange operator Cboe Global Markets plans to expand the cryptocurrency offerings on its digital assets platform. Bloomberg reports.

On Cboe Digital, Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and USD Coin (USDC) are traded.

According to the company’s CEO Edward Tilly, the decision is driven by demand from institutional players for reliable counterparties in the industry after the collapse of FTX. He noted that the platform will approach listing additional coins cautiously.

Cboe Global Markets created the cryptocurrency trading platform after the acquisition of the regulated ErisX platform in May 2022.

In December 2017, CBOE became the first traditional exchange to launch Bitcoin futures trading, beating its competitor CME to the punch by a few days.

In June 2019, amid a bear market, the platform removed the product from listing.

In 2021, the exchange began trading a bitcoin futures-ETF from the VanEck investment company.
