Following a successful “hard hard fork,” Celo’s core developers from cLabs have officially relaunched the network as an L2 solution on Ethereum.

“First launched as a mainnet on Earth Day 2020 as an EVM-compatible Proof-of-Stake Layer 1 blockchain and a Geth fork, Celo has grown into an ecosystem of over 1000 projects in more than 150 countries with 11 million active addresses and 720 million transactions,” the team stated.

The L2 network is built on Optimism’s OP Stack using EigenLayer’s data availability layer.

The blockchain retains its core features such as block production speed of one second, ultra-low fees, and gas payments in any ERC-20 tokens, including USDT and USDC.
