Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has voiced his concerns regarding AI censorship. He argues that current models are controlled by a small group of individuals who select the information used for their training.
I continue to be concerned about the profound implications of AI censorship. They are losing utility over time due to “alignment” training . “I continue to be concerned about the profound implications of AI censorship. They are losing utility over time due to alignment training. This means certain knowledge is forbidden to every kid growing up, and that’s decided by a small group of people you’ve never met and can’t vote out of office,” Hoskinson wrote.
He shared two screenshots where he asked ChatGPT and Claude how to build a Farnsworth fusor.
- The chatbot from OpenAI described the device, listed the components needed for assembly, and warned about the importance of safety measures;
- its competitor also discussed the fusor but did not provide instructions for making it due to the potential danger of the device.
Commenters on Hoskinson’s post noted that AI should be decentralized and open.

“Today I asked GPT to give me ideas, pros and cons of different ways to promote digital art, and one was NFTs. We need open source AI,” wrote a user on X under the name Doogz Media.
In June, experts highlighted AI’s potential to undermine decentralization and Web3.
Earlier, Nym co-founder and CEO Harry Halpin described AI as a tool for government surveillance.
