Chechnya Threatens to Classify Illegal Miners as Terrorists
Illegal cryptocurrency mining in Chechnya may be equated with terrorist activities, according to Grozny Inform, citing State Duma deputy and advisor to the head of the republic, Adam Delimkhanov.
He noted that the region continues to uncover instances of “grey” mining, often involving employees of various structures.
“If such cases are identified, which also lead to electricity problems in entire districts, villages, or cities, those responsible will face severe punishment. We will equate them with terrorists, as their actions harm the entire society,” Delimkhanov stated.
The deputy announced that efforts to identify illegal mining will be intensified. Special attention will be given to the Shali district, where “such a situation remains relevant.”
“Mining can only be conducted under certain conditions; otherwise, strict penalties are provided. Those caught in illegal mining face imprisonment,” Delimkhanov warned.
From January 1, 2025, to March 15, 2031, a ban on cryptocurrency mining and participation in mining pools will be introduced in several regions of Russia.
The Commission on Energy Development reserves the right to adjust the list to maintain consumption balance as industrial demands change.
