China bars video platforms from posting videos about cryptocurrencies and mining

The China Netcasting Services Association (China Netcasting Services Association, CNSA) запретила its members from posting content promoting the trading of cryptocurrencies and mining. The restrictions primarily affect short-video services such as Douyin (the Chinese equivalent of TikTok).

Industry body says the move will raise the quality of information provided by operators and safeguard the “stability of the socialist system of the PRC.”

“The rules are formulated in accordance with relevant national laws and regulations. They are intended to improve the quality of short video content, limit the spread of false and harmful information, and create a clean cyberspace,” the statement said.

Operators of video platforms were barred from publishing material that tarnishes “the ideology and principles of socialism,” insults the ruling party or the country as a whole, or negatively affects the state’s image, among other things.

Earlier, it emerged that analytical services CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap became unavailable to residents of mainland China.

As reported in October, Chinese authorities are examining the possibility of prosecuting crypto trading and mining.
