China Deploys Spherical AI-Powered Police Robots

China has introduced a police robot—a spherical, armed device with artificial intelligence, resembling a large bowling ball. This development is reported by Interesting Engineering.

The RT-G robocop is developed by Logon Technology, a robotics manufacturer. It is designed for extreme conditions, capable of moving on land and water at speeds of up to 35 km/h and withstanding impacts of up to 4 tonnes.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, the robot can recognize faces and identify known offenders. Their apprehension is carried out using tear gas, grenades, sound wave dispersers, and a net-launching gun.

The RT-G was unveiled over a month ago. Initially, it was perceived as a marketing gimmick, but later the robot was spotted alongside human police officers during patrols.

The development of RT-G underscores China’s ambition to integrate robotics into law enforcement. Previously, China introduced a four-legged robot dog equipped with wheels, capable of navigating uneven and complex surfaces.

In November, media suspected institutions linked to the People’s Liberation Army of China of using Meta’s publicly available neural network to develop a tool potentially suitable for military purposes.

Back in July, SAS and Coleman Parkes named China as a leader in the adoption of generative artificial intelligence.
