China unveils operating system for quantum computers
A Chinese startup Origin Quantum Computing Technology released the first operating system for quantum computers. According to Xinhua News Agency.
The new OS, named Origin Pilot, is optimised for managing quantum resources and parallel computing. According to the company, it can also automatically calibrate quantum chips.
“If you compare a quantum chip to the human heart, the operating system of a quantum computer is equivalent to the brain, and quantum application software is the flesh and blood,” said Guo Guangchan, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He added that a good operating system would enable quantum computers to operate more efficiently and stably.
The company said it would deploy the OS on a quantum cloud computing platform to provide access to users worldwide.
In December 2020, a group of Chinese scientists created quantum computer prototype Jiuzhang, capable of processing data 10 billion times faster than Google’s 53-qubit device. In 200 seconds, the device could perform a computation that would take a conventional computer more than half a billion years.
