Startup Zhipu has introduced an artificial intelligence-based model for video generation named Ying, as reported by SCMP.
The platform can create six-second videos from prompts and uploaded images in just 30 seconds. Users have the option to adjust the video style and select emotional themes.
At a presentation in Beijing, the company announced that Ying is available on its official website and in the ChatGLM chatbot mobile app. The free version may require longer wait times for video creation during peak demand.
The technology behind Ying is a text-to-video conversion model developed by the company called CogVideoX. Zhipu’s CEO Zhang Peng noted that his firm was “inspired” by OpenAI’s video generator, Sora.
The launch of Ying came two days after another Chinese company, Kuaishou, released a similar tool, Kling, on the global market. Kling creates five-second videos in one to two minutes across three resolutions.
Interest in AI models for video generation from prompts surged following the launch of Sora by Sam Altman’s company in February. Sora can create videos up to 60 seconds long with resolutions up to 1080p from simple text prompts, though it remains unavailable to the general public.
Previously, Toys “R” Us created an advertisement using Sora and faced a wave of criticism.
Earlier, writer and director Paul Trillo generated a music video using OpenAI’s AI.
