Christine Lagarde: Central banks unlikely to include Bitcoin in their reserves

ECB President Christine Lagarde doubted that central banks would include digital gold in their reserves in the near future, writes Business Insider.

“Extremely unlikely. So unlikely that there is nothing to say,” she said at a conference hosted by The Economist.

Earlier, Lagarde called Bitcoin a highly speculative asset. While head of the IMF, in 2018 she stated that international regulation of cryptocurrencies is inevitable.

Earlier in November, the ECB president announced that the launch of a digital euro is possible within the next four years.

In December, Lagarde noted that the spread of stablecoins poses risks to financial stability and monetary sovereignty.
