Cloudflare, Visa, and Mastercard to Develop Payment Protocol for AI Agents
Cloudflare partners with payment firms to enable AI agent commerce.
Network service provider Cloudflare has announced a partnership with major payment companies to create a solution in the field of agent commerce. The collaboration will enable AI agents to make purchases from millions of merchants worldwide, according to a press release.
Cloudflare and Visa have jointly developed the Trusted Agent Protocol—a solution that allows payment networks to integrate Web Bot Auth. This enables merchants to interact securely and transparently with the “next generation of purchasing AI agents.”
Visa will integrate the new development into its Visa Intelligent Commerce platform.
Cloudflare is also collaborating with Mastercard and American Express to apply Web Bot Auth. The European payment company will add the protocol to Mastercard Agent Pay. American Express will also use the tool in its agent commerce program.
Digital assistants created with the Cloudflare Agents SDK will soon be able to use the protocols for autonomous purchases.
“The future of commerce is agent-based, and Cloudflare is building a reliable foundation for it,” said Cloudflare’s Chief Strategy Officer, Stephanie Cohen.
Web Bot Auth, introduced in 2025, is a solution that allows bots and agents to authenticate. With its integration into the Trusted Agent Protocol, merchants can identify the identity and intent of agent traffic and securely accept any payment methods—credit, debit cards, cryptocurrencies, and more.
In July, Cloudflare launched the Pay per Crawl service, which creates a content marketplace for authors and AI companies.
In September, the network service provider announced plans to issue the stablecoin NET Dollar.
