CME Group launches euro-denominated futures on Bitcoin and Ethereum

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME Group) launched euro-denominated futures on Bitcoin and Ethereum.

“The launch of these new futures contracts is based on the strong growth and deep liquidity observed in our Bitcoin- and Ether-based products, traded in dollars,” said Tim McCourt, CME Group’s head of Equity and FX Products.

The contract sizes for Bitcoin Euro and Ether Euro are 5 BTC and 50 ETH. Cash-settled according to the CME CF Bitcoin-Euro and CME CF Ether-Euro reference rates, which serve as the daily benchmarks for the price of crypto assets.

The exchange will list the new products in accordance with the rules.

In December 2021, CME Group launched microfutures based on Ethereum.

On September 12, the exchange will begin trading options on the futures of the second-largest cryptocurrency in anticipation of The Merge.
