CME Group to list Ethereum options
On September 12, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) запустит options on Ethereum futures in anticipation of The Merge. This will occur after regulatory approval.
The migration of the blockchain of the second-largest cryptocurrency to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm Proof-of-Stake is expected 15-16 сентября.
«As the long-awaited Ethereum merge approaches, market participants are turning to CME Group to manage price risk. In this regard, options will offer greater flexibility and additional precision», — said Tim McCourt, head of equities and FX products at CME Group.
The new contract will correspond to one Ethereum futures contract of 50 ETH.
Earlier, on February 8, 2021, the exchange added Ethereum futures, and on December 6 launched mikrofutures on the second-largest cryptocurrency.
In March 2022, the exchange announced the appearance of options on microfutures based on Bitcoin and Ethereum.
At the end of July, influential Chinese miner Chandler Guo voiced the idea of a fork with the emergence of an Ethereum fork that will continue to operate on the Proof-of-Work (PoW) algorithm. The resulting asset ETHW will allow miners to continue operating after the merge.
Earlier, supporters of the PoW fork of Ethereum called it «inevitable». However CoinShares analysts were skeptical about the prospects of the cryptocurrency, calling it «unviable».
