
CME to add Ethereum futures
The Chicago-based futures exchange (CME), focused on large players, will add Ethereum futures, according to a company сообщении компании.
Trading in the new product will begin on 8 February 2021. Settlements will be based on the ETH/USD reference rate.
Representatives said that the addition of Ethereum contracts was driven by demand and “sustained growth” of the Bitcoin futures market.
In 2018, CME Group’s managing director Tim McCourt said plans to test the possibility of launching Ethereum futures; at that time there was no talk of actual listing.
Earlier, CME Group launched futures on the Bitcoin index in December 2017.
In November 2020, the open interest (OI) in Bitcoin futures on CME came close to the $1 billion mark.
