A Russian national, Denis Dubnikov, accused of laundering funds for the Ryuk ransomware operators, was extradited from the Netherlands to the United States. сообщает the American Department of Justice.
According to court documents, at least $70 million in illicit funds flowed through the Bitcoin exchanges founded by Dubnikov, Coyote Crypto and EggChange. He is directly charged with laundering more than $400,000 through cryptocurrencies in July 2019.
The defendant is due to appear in court in Portland on October 4. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
On 2 November 2021, Denis Dubnikov was arrested in the Netherlands at the FBI’s request.

Since 2018, the creators of the Ryuk ransomware have attacked at least 235 hospitals and psychiatric inpatient facilities in the United States, demanding a ransom to restore files.
In 2020 alone, hackers received about $150 million in cryptocurrency. More than $1 million of this amount moved through the Binance exchange.
