Police in Podgorica, acting on requests from Poland and South Korea, have arrested Roman Ziemian, co-founder of the cryptocurrency scheme FutureNet, on suspicion of multimillion-dollar fraud. This was reported by local media.
According to the investigation, in 2014, the 51-year-old Polish national, along with Stephan Morgenstern, established a fund engaged in cryptocurrency trading. The platform was later transformed into FutureAdPRO with its native token, FuturoCoin.
A large number of citizens from Poland and South Korea suffered from the companies’ activities, with total damages amounting to approximately $21 million.
Ziemian is suspected of fraud, money laundering, and theft. In South Korea, these crimes are punishable by life imprisonment. He had previously been arrested in Italy but escaped from house arrest.
According to police, Morgenstern “was arrested in Greece and then in Albania.”
During searches, law enforcement confiscated technical devices and items believed to be the result of criminal activity.
Ziemian will remain in custody until a court decision on extradition is made.
