To mark the integration, Ledger released a limited-edition Nano X Coinbase Edition. The devices are available for purchase from the manufacturer’s online store.
“Coinbase Wallet is your passport to collecting NFTs, participating in DeFi, joining DAOs, and much more. As you spend more of your life on the blockchain, it is more important than ever to keep your assets secure,” the statement said.
The company expects the Ledger wallet integration to provide an additional layer of protection.
“Hardware wallets are physical devices that store the private keys for your address offline. Because every blockchain transaction requires both a public and a private key, a hardware wallet ensures that only the user who physically possesses the device can complete it,” Coinbase explained.
The exchange team likened the use of a hardware wallet to two-factor authentication, where instead of a code generated by the service, a physical confirmation via pressing a button is used.
As a reminder, in the form of browser extension, the Coinbase Wallet app became available to users in November 2021.
