Coinbase CEO: AI Writes 40% of Our Code
Coinbase aims for over 50% AI-generated code by October.
Approximately 40% of the code at Coinbase is generated with the help of AI. The exchange’s CEO, Brian Armstrong, aims to increase this figure to over 50% by October.
~40% of daily code written at Coinbase is AI-generated. I want to get it to >50% by October.
Obviously it needs to be reviewed and understood, and not all areas of the business can use AI-generated code. But we should be using it responsibly as much as we possibly can. pic.twitter.com/Nmnsdxgosp

“Obviously, the code needs to be reviewed and understood, and not all areas of the business can use AI. But we should be using it responsibly as much as we possibly can,” the entrepreneur stated.
Since April, the volume of AI-generated code has doubled, according to the presented chart.
“This has enabled remarkable achievements that were impossible 12 months ago. For example, some engineers can now refactor, update, or create new codebases in days instead of months,” Armstrong noted.
Earlier, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that 20-30% of the company’s code is written by artificial intelligence.
Back in August, Armstrong announced that Coinbase had laid off programmers who refused to use artificial intelligence in their work. The company purchased corporate licenses for GitHub Copilot and Cursor to integrate AI into its workflows.
