Coinbase hires former SEC official
Former member of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Christian Sabella has joined the Bitcoin exchange Coinbase. This was announced by the company’s chief legal officer, Paul Grewal.
I’m delighted to welcome Christian Sabella to @coinbase! Christian was the former Acting Director of the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets during an impressive decade at the agency. He will be leading our legal work on capital markets.

According to the SEC’s website, Sabella has worked at the agency since 2011. Before that, he held the position of senior counsel at Shearman & Sterling. In January 2021 he was named acting director of the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets.
At Coinbase, the former official is to lead the legal work on capital markets.
Earlier in March, Coinbase hired the former Director of the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets Brett Redfern to engage with investors. The appointment came ahead of the company’s direct listing on Nasdaq.
In May, the Bitcoin exchange announced that former Goldman Sachs top executive and ex-official Faryar Shirzad joined the team to lobby Coinbase’s interests.
