ConsenSys unveils automated tool for smart-contract security testing

Developers from Diligence, the ConsenSys unit, unveiled a tool called Fuzzing. It allows identifying vulnerabilities in Ethereum smart contracts without deploying additional infrastructure. The Block reports this.

The new solution uses a testing technique known as fuzzing. It involves feeding the application with incorrect, unexpected, or random data in order to identify bugs, crashes, hangs, and other faults.

The tool employs an advanced algorithm—greybox fuzzing, tailored for smart contracts. This approach focuses on systems as a whole, rather than individual functions, and, according to ConsenSys experts, is more effective than other similar solutions.

According to them, in tandem with another open-source tool — Scribble — developers can streamline the process of security testing and increase the reliability of applications deployed on the Ethereum mainnet.

In July, the crypto industry lost $303 million as a result of exploits and hacker attacks.
