Cosmos developer Tendermint rebrands as Ignite

The company behind the Cosmos project, Tendermint, has rebranded to Ignite after one of its co-founders used the original name for his new initiative.

In 2014, founder Jae Kwon registered Tendermint. According to The Block, in 2020 he left the company to launch Virgo and “to build better open technology for collaboration” aimed at solving global problems such as climate change.

The current Ignite CEO Pat Zhong, who replaced Kwon, said that the founder had reclaimed ownership of the brand for the new company. The latter confirmed the launch of the project under the name Tendermint, without disclosing any details.

According to Zhong, in search of a new brand he aimed for something that would better clarify Cosmos’s mission.

“As for Ignite [from English — to ignite], this is much closer to what Cosmos is. It is about a big explosion, a spark of new products on the project’s technology,” Zhong explained.

As reported, Cosmos joined the list of networks whose support for adapted versions was added by the national blockchain infrastructure platform of China.
