Court ends case over blocking Bestchange mirror of cryptocurrency-exchange aggregator

The prosecutor’s office dropped its bid to block Bestchange.net — the mirror of the online exchange aggregator Bestchange.ru. ForkLog was informed of this by the Digital Rights Center, the law firm that represented Bestchange in court.

The October District Court of Arkhangelsk ordered to block the site Bestchange.net on December 1, 2020.

According to the lawyers, despite the favorable ruling, they do not rule out further blockages:

“Multiple courts in different regions have already issued blocking orders for this site. We have all of them successfully appealed, but precedents are not being set, alas,” said the Digital Rights Center.

In 2017, Bestchange was one of 40 Russian online exchanges blocked by the October District Court of Saint Petersburg.

In 2019, Roskomnadzor, acting on the decision of Kuybyshevsky District Court of Omsk, added Bestchange.ru to the register of banned sites and blocked access to it. Later the court issued a decision to lift the blockade.

In August 2020 Roskomnadzor again blocked the domain Bestchange.ru by the Kotlas City Court’s decision. In November, Arkhangelsk Regional Court overturned the first-instance decision to block the site, and later Bestchange.ru was removed from the register of banned sites.

The Kotlas City Court was due to re-examine the case returned to it by the regional court on 14 January 2021, but the hearing was postponed to 15 February.
