Court ends case over blocking of BestChange aggregator site
The prosecutor’s office dropped its bid to block the BestChange aggregator site for cryptocurrency exchanges. ForkLog said that the Digital Rights Center, the law firm that represented the project’s interests in court, told them.
According to lawyer Valeria Smirnova, the prosecutor’s refusal was explained by the law “On Digital Financial Assets”, which came into force on January 1.
“In reality, the entry into force of this law merely confirmed the validity of our position that disseminating information about cryptocurrency has never been prohibited. The legislature simply needed time to bring new legal relationships into the legal framework,” she said.
As a reminder, the site Bestchange.ru was blocked in August 2020 on the basis of a decision by the Kotlas City Court dated January 22, 2020.
The prosecutor considered that the site contained prohibited information, namely the offer to acquire Bitcoin and ‘certain goods for the above-mentioned currency, representing a virtual means of payment and store of value’.
In November, Arkhangelsk Regional Court overturned the ruling, since the site owner was not involved in the case. In December, Roskomnadzor excluded Bestchange.ru from the register of banned websites.
In February, the prosecutor’s office also withdrew the claims to block the aggregator’s mirror — Bestchange.net.
