On 1 December, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Arkhangelsk ordered to block the site Bestchange.net – the mirror of the online aggregator of cryptocurrency exchanges Bestchange.ru. The state prosecutor contends that the resource disseminates information about the sale of counterfeit Bank of Russia banknotes.
Pursuant to the same suit, the PirateBay forum and the Darknet Team portal were blocked.
“The court’s decision shall be implemented immediately.”
According to ForkLog, a representative of Bestchange.ru said that the court did not verify the information for accuracy:
“The judge was persuaded that, according to the prosecutor, a check had been conducted, the results of which showed that the sites’ pages contained information the dissemination of which is prohibited in the Russian Federation.”
In the indictment, the prosecutor contends that the information posted on the sites named in the suit “had not previously been deemed prohibited, and it proved impossible to identify the owners of the sites”.
“Both of these facts are false. To determine the owner of our site, it is enough to send an official request to the hosting provider”, noted Bestchange.ru.
Within a month, representatives of Bestchange.ru may file an appeal against this court decision.
“We have no doubt that this court decision will be overturned on appeal. The Bestchange team also intends to take all possible measures to protect the rights of our users; we are already discussing with lawyers a package of possible countermeasures: complaints, appeals, and lawsuits”, added the site’s representative.
Since 2017, Roskomnadzor has repeatedly placed the Bestchange.ru cryptocurrency exchanges aggregator on the list of restricted resources for disseminating information about the possibility of buying Bitcoin and paying for certain goods with it.
The last time the blockade was lifted on 25 November by the decision of the Arkhangelsk Oblast Court.
