The Court of Cassation of France will issue a ruling on August 7 on the lawyers’ appeal against the legality of Alexander Vinnik’s arrest, who is suspected of laundering at least $4 billion through the BTC-e bitcoin exchange. TASS reports this, citing the judge’s words.
The counsel for the Conseil d’État and the Court of Cassation in France, Elene Farzh, said the court should consider whether Vinnik could have been detained on the basis of the European arrest warrant without verifying the legality and validity of that warrant.
«The Greek Minister of Justice has made a decision that, in our practical system, cannot fail to astonish. The minister is a representative of the executive branch, and the executive branch cannot take a decision about detaining people in custody,» Farzh said.
Recently, Vinnik’s lawyer confirmed that his case was transferred to a French correctional court.
