Craig Wright Files New Defamation Suit Against Bitcoin.com Founder Roger Ver

Representatives of Craig Wright, the self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto, filed a defamation lawsuit in the High Court of Antigua and Barbuda against Roger Ver, founder and executive chairman of Bitcoin.com, CoinGeek reports.

Last year Wright filed a similar suit in the High Court of England and Wales. The basis was a YouTube video in which Ver called Wright a “liar and a fraud” for Wright’s claim of creating Bitcoin. He subsequently removed the video.

The judge dismissed the suit, finding no grounds for it to be heard in British jurisdiction.

This time, the Australian entrepreneur’s lawyers turned to Antigua and Barbuda’s court, as Ver holds a passport from the island state.

Earlier, Craig Wright had filed a number of defamation suits against figures in the Bitcoin community. All of them Wright filed in the United Kingdom.

The list included: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Blockstream CEO Adam Back, What Bitcoin Did host Peter McCormack, and Twitter-famous Bitcoin investor Hodlonaut.

Statements against Buterin and Back were withdrawn by the entrepreneur, while the suit against Hodlonaut was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction.

In June 2019 the investor filed a counterclaim against Wright in Norway, where he resides. The Australian’s claim was likewise forwarded there, and dismissed by courts at all levels.

This month Hodlonaut noted that two months later Wright had still not covered the $60,000 in legal costs, even though he was obliged to do so within two weeks of the Court of Appeal’s ruling.
