Crypto.com accidentally transferred $10.5 million to a Melbourne woman instead of $100

In May 2021, the cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com accidentally transferred $10.5 million to a Melbourne woman instead of a $100 refund. The report comes from Ticker News.

The erroneous transaction was discovered more than seven months later as a result of an audit at year-end.

The platform filed suit to recover the funds. During the hearing, a Crypto.com representative explained the error by noting that, in the payment field, instead of the amount of $100, an account number was entered by the employee.

However, before the company attempted to recover the funds, the recipient and her sister bought a luxury mansion with a gym and a cinema in a Melbourne suburb.

The judge ordered the sale of the property and the remaining money returned to the platform.

Earlier in January, Crypto.com became a sponsor of the men’s and women’s football leagues in Australia.

In March, became known that the platform would be the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
