In Korolyov, a suspect has been detained in the murder of the former deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Main Directorate for Economic Crimes (GUBEP). The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said.
According to the agency, the 59-year-old Sergey Yegorov is acquainted with Novoseltsev’s daughter. Not long before the tragedy he borrowed money from her, began trading cryptocurrency and went bust.
In an apparent attempt to recover the money, the woman allegedly threatened the acquaintance with her father’s connections. The suspect, frightened, broke into the retired colonel’s home and killed him.
Aleksey Novoseltsev held the post of deputy head of the GUBEP (now the Main Directorate for Economic Security and Countering Corruption) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the 1990s. He also retired then.
Novoseltsev was found murdered on October 25 in the Rodnik-1 gardening cooperative in the village of Desna with multiple stab wounds.
The suspect is currently being interrogated by Moscow investigators. A court is expected to decide on his remand shortly.
Earlier in September, police in Udmurtia arrested the owner of an unnamed darknet service, who is suspected of organising contract killings.
